This information applies to all CSOM majors:

Math

All Carlson School students are required to complete one college-level calculus class. You should take the math placement test unless you meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You completed the Advanced Placement Calculus test with a score of 3 or higher, or you are currently enrolled in a Calculus AP class and are certain you will earn a 3 or higher.
  2. You completed the International Baccalaureate Math test with a score of 5 or higher, or you are currently enrolled in the IB Math class and are certain you will earn a 5 or higher.
  3. You have successfully completed or are currently in the process of completing an approved college-level calculus class (completing a calculus class in high school does not exempt you from this requirement).

If a student places into Math 1051 Precalculus I, they should consider reviewing the material and retesting. If a student places into Math 1051 Precalculus I again on their second attempt, they should take Math 1051 Precalculus I.

If a student places into Math 1151 Precalculus II, they should consider reviewing the material and retesting. If a student places into Math 1151 Precalculus II again on their second attempt, they should take Math 1151 Precalculus II.

If a student places into Math 1271/Math 1142 Short Calculus, they should take one of these courses (unless they have previous AP/IB/transfer credits).

Chemistry

No chemistry placement is required for progress toward CSOM majors.
