Math

All Carlson School students are required to complete one college-level calculus course. As such, all Carlson School students must also complete the math placement exam—students will discuss results of the placement exam with their advisor at orientation. Students will also have the opportunity to discuss incoming credit for math with their advisor (AP, IB, transfer credit, or other incoming credit); students are required to take the placement exam regardless of incoming credit.

If a student places into MATH 1051 Precalculus I, they should consider reviewing the material and retesting. If a student places into MATH 1051 Precalculus I again on their second attempt, they should take MATH 1051 Precalculus I.

If a student places into MATH 1151 Precalculus II, they should consider reviewing the material and retesting. If a student places into MATH 1151 Precalculus II again on their second attempt, they should take MATH 1151 Precalculus II.

If a student places into MATH 1271 Calculus I or MATH 1142 Short Calculus, they should take one of these courses (unless they have previous AP/IB/transfer credits). Honors students who place into MATH 1271 Calculus I should take MATH 1571H Honors Calculus I (Honors students can also take MATH 1142 Short Calculus, and they should discuss which course is best with their advisor).

Chemistry

No chemistry placement is required for progress toward CSOM majors.
