CLA Math Placement Guide for Transfer Students

Review the following information and find which describes you. If you are unsure if you need to take the Math Placement Exam, reach out to the CLA Transfer Team at [email protected].

If you:

  • Intend to major in one of the following: Anthropology B.S. Astrophysics, Biology, Society and Environment, Chemistry, Developmental Psychology, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geosciences, Economics, Geography B.S., Human Physiology, Mathematics, Physics, Pre-health Programs (Nursing, MD, PT, PA,Pharmacy, etc.), Psychology B.S. , Sociology  B.S., Statistics, Urban Studies B.S. and have not completed College Calc 1 (Math 1271) with a C- or better, or earned credit for Calc through AP, IB or other programs, you must take the Math Placement Exam.
  • Do not intend to major in one of the following: Anthropology B.S. Astrophysics, Biology, Society and Environment, Chemistry, Developmental Psychology, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geosciences, Economics, Geography B.S., Human Physiology, Mathematics, Physics, Pre-health Programs (Nursing, MD, PT, PA,Pharmacy, etc.), Psychology B.S. , Sociology  B.S., Statistics, Urban Studies B.S., you do not need to take the Math Placement Exam.
  • Are considering a transfer to Carlson School of Management, College of Science & Engineering, College of Biological Sciences, or College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences, you must take the Math Placement Exam.
